Why rapessed cake?
Each year, Denmark generates over 500,000 tons of rapeseed cake as a residue from rapeseed oil milling. While this co-product has traditionally been used in livestock feed and soil enrichment, recent research highlights its untapped potential for human nutrition and functional food development, thanks to its rich composition in:
As the demand for sustainable and resilient food systems grows, repurposing rapeseed cake for human consumption offers a triple-win: reducing agri-food waste, promoting local bioeconomy models, and delivering nutritional benefits.
The BRILIAN Danish Pilot
The BRILIAN pilot in Denmark is led by @DLG Group, @Danish Technological Institute, @CHIMAR and @Food & Bio Cluster Denmark, and focuses on the extraction of plant-based proteins and additives from rapeseed cake for use in vegan foods and adhesives.
